Back to Basics, Back to Health

30 Days to a Healthier You

I started my fitness journey years ago. As many of you know I have tried countless diets, gimmicks, pills, workouts, and more. I have starved myself, I have suffered through and hidden an eating disorder. I have taken laxatives and have probably tried every diet pill that has come to market. I share this with you because out of all the crazy things I have done only one thing has worked for me and supported my overall wellness.

I am not just talking about weight here. I am talking about how I feel. I am talking about my energy levels, my mood. I am talking about getting rid of the bloat and constipation. Clearing up my skin and feeling and looking more vibrant. When it comes to health and wellness there is a lot more to it than simply eating less and exercising more. If you're like me you are probably sick of being told that that's all you need to do to maintain a healthy weight, increase your energy and feel amazing. The truth is you need to look at much more than just your diet and exercise routine (although this greatly impacts your health).

In my 30 Days to a Healthier You Challenge you will learn how true nourishment has little to do with diet and exercise and when you learn to nourish your body in the way it truly craves, the rest often falls into place. Diet DOES MATTER, but you have to address the underlying factors that lead you to overeating in the first place. In my experience, when one part of my life is out of sync, others quickly fall out of place and my health often suffers. Lets take a look!

When looking at our overall wellness there are 8 core areas we must look at. These include:

Spirituality

Relaxation

Personal Time

Home Environment

Physical Exercise

Relationships

Food

Life Role and/or Career

You might find you are doing great in some of these areas and maybe not so great in others but they all tie together when dealing with your overall happiness, and therefore, your overall health and wellness. We must unlearn that having a skinny waist or a toned body will make us happy alone. The most fit people can be miserably unhealthy. Just as the richest people might actually live a life of relationship poverty. Each area needs unique attention and that is exactly what we are going to focus on in Back to Basics. Once we take a look at these areas we can shift accordingly to the areas that need a little more love. Go through the list and rate how you feel about each one. Do you have a spiritual relationship? It doesn't have to be with God. It just needs to be. When was the last time you truly relaxed? Do you take time every week for yourself guilt-free? How is your home environment? Do you feel tense in your home? Is it cluttered? Do you like the decor? Do you workout? How are you physically active each week? What do your relationships look like? With your spouse? Friends? Family? Co-workers? Are they meaningful and do they energize you, or are they draining? How are you nourishing your body? What foods do you ingest and are they thought through? Or are you rushed and happy to get anything down? And lastly, what is your purpose? Do you feel you are fulfilling your life's role or do you feel stuck in a job or career you hate? Take time to think about these aspects of your life, your health depends on it. Of course you will learn why the foods you choose to nourish your body with are so important as well as why it is vital to physically move your body and workout. This is definitely part of your overall wellness and it can not be disregarded. As humans we need to go back to basics and learn what real food looks like, tastes like, feels like, and how it makes us feel. We are mammals. Our bodies were meant to run off certain foods that contain the right macro and micro-nutrients and when we eat chemically filled foods that were actually made by scientists in a lab as opposed to out in nature our bodies don't know what to do. We are actually starving ourselves of proper nourishment and getting fat, irritable, and anxious in the meantime. It's not your fault. Most don't realize that the "healthy food" they are eating is actually not healthy at all. Diet anything makes us fat. Good fat actually makes us lean. Carbs are not the enemy. It's as if everything we learned about health is wrong. To make matters more complicated we have all the fad diets of what to eat and what not to eat. We have Paleo and ketogenics, we have juicing and raw diets, we have vegetarian, and vegan, gluten free, high fat, low fat; the list is endless. What I do know is there is no such thing as one size fits all. What works for me may not work for you.

What works for me may not work for you. What works for you may not work for your best friend or spouse.

But I am confident we will get to the bottom of what does work for you and you will not starve in the meantime. After looking through many many diets I have learned there is one common theme in all of the truly healthy options and that is whole food. Real food. You will learn about real food and see that it's not that scary.
